The Importance of Professional Ear Cleaning
Ear wax can be safely removed in two ways:
- Using a lighted curette and gently pulling the wax out of your ear. This option works best for those with minimal wax buildup.
- When you have an abundance of wax in your ears, we suggest a flushing. We use body tepid water in a syringe that is pushed into your ear, this water fills your ear canal and moves the earwax out.
Both options leave your ears nice and clean.
Sometimes when wax has been in your ears accumulating for a large period of time, it can get hard and attach itself to your canal wall. This is perfectly okay and happens quite often to a number of people. There is an extra step to accomplish before we are able to flush the wax out; we need to soften it.
To make it more comfortable to remove the wax by flushing, we suggest to put a few drops of oil in your ears for a period of 3-7 days before we provide the flushing. This ensures that the wax is sufficiently softened to have the best chance of removal. You can use olive oil, coconut oil, vegetable oil etc.
If you have a history of ear infections, please consult your family physician before choosing an oil to soften the ear wax.
